The year is 2046. Detective Ross Sylibus is transferred to Mars when a country singer on his flight is murdered. Making matters more complicated is that the singer is a "Third" - a robot that looks and feels like a human. Sylibus is partnered with Armitage - a beautiful female cop with a bad attitude. As they investigate the murder of the singer and other women on Mars, they uncover a conspiracy that can have them both killed by the Martian government, especially when Armitage is revealed to be a Third herself. |

It starts out as a simple murder mystery on a scifi world(read Mars) featuring a wide array of robots of all kinds, but it soon develops into this classic philosophical debate that scifi is so known for, namely the age old question:do robots have souls? And/or do they have feelings? The show doesnt take a clear standpoint on the issue, but it leans more towards a yes, rather than a no. The characters are distinct and well fleshed out, with back stories that are only hinted at(some a bit more than others). The main character Armitage is a pretty good female lead, despite her fanservice outfit. She has a bright and tough attitude, and can kick ass when she needs to. Speaking of the action its pretty good, its brutal when it needs to be, but it doesnt revel in it as some shows does. If I have to fault the show for something, its that the final episode lingers a bit, and ends on a somewhat anticlimactic note, but overall, this is definitely one of the better sci-fi animes of the 90s I have encountered.

If you can imagine Yuri on Ice! meets Holmes of Kyoto, then this is it. Slow paced but gripping. Boy-Love but not distasteful...
