Summary: |
Moritaka Mashiro, a junior high school student, content to live out a relatively normal life as any other does, is persuaded by his classmate, Akito Takagi, to become an aspiring mangaka when the latter realizes his natural talent as an artist. However, Moritaka is reluctant to pursue his dream as his uncle, once a mangaka with his own serializations, died from overwork trying to regain his lost status. With Akito's help, Takagi gets another classmate and his school crush, Azuki Miho, who is an aspiring voice actress, to voice in the anime adaptation of their future manga once it is completed. However, Mashiro also proposes to Azuki, who surprisingly accepts only on the condition she will marry him when both of them have achieved their dreams. With a goal set before him, Mashiro begins a long and struggling path to become a famous mangaka. |

When I first found out that the creators of Death Note had decided to collaborate again and were writing a new series, I was delighted. The quality of Death Note had left me wanting more from the two brilliant mangakas. I immediately started reading the manga and was amazed at how different it was to their previous work. To be honest I couldn't really see it turning into an anime, it just didn't seem like anime material. SO when I found it, it was to be made into an anime I was extremely curious to see the result. It completely surprised me.
The anime is simply put, great. The story is, of course, amazingly detailed and pretty informative, the dialogue matches it well and whilst the animation isn't the best I've seen (but what did I expect considering what this anime is about); it scores full marks in the entertainment department. The small yet brilliant cast of characters and the great plot, mixed with comedic scenes/references and a surprising element of romance - completely took my breath away. Whilst nothing like their first work, this anime is by no means worse. It is a piece of genius it's own right and quite frankly I would recommend it to pretty much everyone. There may be too much dialogue and not enough action for some, but those with a decent attention span should seriously consider watching this unique, utterly brilliant anime.
