| Summary: |
Mato Kuroi just got into junior high school, and on the first day, someone catches her eye; her classmate Yomi Takanashi. The two meet.
The innocent and naive Mato. The mature Yomi. Seemingly opposites, but the time they spend together only strengthens a growing friendship.
But as they go into their second year at the school, they get placed in separate classes, and they begin to grow apart.
But somewhere simultaneously...
In another world, a young girl, blue fire residing in her eyes, Black Rock Shooter faces another young girl; this one holding a jet-black scythe, Dead Master, and a battle to the death begins to unfold. |

Having read lots of positive reviews, and seen screen shots, I was pretty sure that Black Rock Shooter was going to be some action filled romp with some fan service thrown in.
Not so!
It's quite a simple story really, about two girls who become very close friends, and the feeling of lonliness that can engulf you when someone else joins the twosome, throwing up the balance.
It's really very subtle, the RL story, done in such a way that everyone can emphasize, though it doesn't feel generic.
But this is punctuated by the violent action scenes in the otherworld, making it an awesome mix, regardless of what genre you like!
It's a little confusing at first, withteh dual realities, but all you have to do is sit back and go with teh flow! All becomes clear in the end!
It's got wonderful art, amazing to watch, definatly a high-class OVA!

If you can imagine Yuri on Ice! meets Holmes of Kyoto, then this is it. Slow paced but gripping. Boy-Love but not distasteful...
