| Summary: |
Kurosaki Ichigo is a 15 year old boy that has an ability to see ghosts/spirits. Because of his ability, he is able to meet a female death god (a.k.a Shinigami) named Kuchiki Rukia. To save his family and friends from unwanted soul-eating spirits (Hollows), Rukia transfers her Shinigami powers to Ichigo. As Rukia takes on a human shell, together they solve mysteries involving spirits and hollows until from the spirit world comes 2 other shinigamis explaining that it is illegal to transfer Shinigami powers to humans and Rukia exceeded the time limit to stay in the human world. After they sentence her death for breaking the laws, Ichigo snaps and swears to everyone he will retrieve Rukia by breaking into the spirit world. |

Bleach is one of my favourite animes. It has a lot of excellent comedic value, portrayed through fantastic dialogue between loveable characters. It has hints of romantic undertones throughout the series, but this plays back seat to the comedic value and intense fight scenes.
The story of a young student who gets caught in the world of the shinigami (Trans: Death Gods), and through trials and tribulations is made into an honorary death god and made privy to there knowledge and life after death. The main character has the usual japanese tenacious do-gooder attitude but at the same time, tries to be cool while doing so (Naturally he has Gaijin coloured hair - The same as Naruto!). The main character uses a long sword but can fight with martial arts also, he has numerous power ups throughout the series which will leave you wanting him to go all out every fight!
All in all, the series is a fantastic watch, you will be annoyed at times with random story arcs interrupting pivotal points in the overall story, but you will never be left bored. The characters are fantastic, story is good and the dialogue is excellent. I would recommend if you enjoyed InuYasha, Naruto, One Piece and Shijō Saikyō no Deshi Ken'ichi.

If you can imagine Yuri on Ice! meets Holmes of Kyoto, then this is it. Slow paced but gripping. Boy-Love but not distasteful...
