Claymore is a darkish, gory, demon vs good guys anime. Centring itself around Akuma (trans: Demons) and claymores (women wielding large swords), this anime is the typical hunt the demon anime. However, that does not mean it is not any good. Claymores are women whom, through training and modification are able to kill these demons. The demons eat humans and are able to hold their shape and form for a period of time. The claymores are hired by humans when the akuma situation gets out of hand.

The story is based on one claymore in particular, she is a low ranking claymore and we are introduced to her and her backstory from the onset of the anime. The story develops around herself, her organisation, an orphaned young man and the strongest of the Akuma.

It is violent, it is gritty, it has displays of unknown strength and abilities and is fantastic to watch. The final episode diverts from the manga, but is very good. However, it leaves the door open for the next season, which, to this day, has not been made.

All in all, it is a great watch, you will be enthralled from start to finish and left wanting more. I recommend it to you if you enjoyed Elfen Lied and Ergo Proxy.
