Death note can go under the genre horror, thriller, and mystery. Basically a guy with a very high state of consciousness and morality recognizes the shit that is going around this world and his powerlessness to stop it. but one day a shinigami drops his death note, (not by accident of course, just wanted to mess around and have some fun.) However Yamagi Light takes this as a sign of revelation and tries in a desperate attempt to create his ideal utopia, without criminals or any bad people. This anime gets really controversial, "is this guy doing the right thing by killing off criminals?" A fight begins between the holder of the Death Note and the mysterious anonymous detective trying to uncover light's identity and bring him to justice.

If you can imagine Yuri on Ice! meets Holmes of Kyoto, then this is it. Slow paced but gripping. Boy-Love but not distasteful...
