| Summary: |
Tohru Honda is 16 year old orphaned girl who gets invited to live in the house of her classmate, the handsome boy Sohma Yuki, and his cousins, 16 year old Kyo and 27 year old Shigure. However, these young men and parts of the rest of their family (both close and distant) hold a curse; if they are hugged by the opposite gender, they transform into animals of the Chinese Zodiac. Everyday is an adventure for sweet Tohru, as she gets to know everyone in the large family better (especially Yuki and Kyo), in both common and bizarre situations. But, the Sohma Family curse is certainly no laughing matter... it also holds horrible cruelity and heartbreak. |

This anime is more for the female viewer. It's a very sweet anime where the heroine, a very likable and kind girl, comes to live with a few guys, all of whom are able to shapeshift. The anime is filled with bishoujo and bishounen, centers on themes of friendship, family, and how being loved, when you think of yourself as only something to be hated, can save you. There is romance but it doesn't quite come fruition, which is frustrating but also good as there is more than one person you might find yourself rooting for. There is in a sense heavy drama at the core of the story-with themes of hatred, self-hatred, self-sacrifice, evil, and exile. The comedy is really fun-the boys turn into animals when hugged by girls so they spend a lot of time trying to deal with times when it happens.
I enjoyed it a lot, hope you do too.

If you can imagine Yuri on Ice! meets Holmes of Kyoto, then this is it. Slow paced but gripping. Boy-Love but not distasteful...
