In my opinion, Mobile Fighter G Gundam is the best Gundam in the series. Obviously the majority of the original series fan will completely disagree with me, but that's their opinion, and this is mine.

This is where this series shines: It takes the basic settings of all gundam which is more or less a strungle between Earth and Colony, Drama, Action with giant robots etc, but it does it GOOD.

First : MAIN CHARACTER IS ADULT, NOT TEENAGER. So no teenage angst, stupid romance, stupid drama or anything that you can't stand after watching so many Gundam shows.

Second : The main character has a goal and a personnality. Most of the main characters of Gundam series don't have one.

Third : He's initially a martial artist, and the gundam in this series work with the movement of the bodies, so no bullshit Newtype magically learning how to ride the mecha.

Fourth : The stories does get somewhere. The original Gundam tried to go into a Mature Military Drama type of story but failed because the characters are so young and dumb sometimes that you try do understand where the story is going

Fifth : The soundtrack is epic, just for that it deserves to be mentioned.

Seriously, if you consider watching a Gundam that isn't a carbon copy of the last one with stupid characters and no direction in the story, watch this. By no means it's perfect, it does have it shares of silliness and Anime absurdities and such but it isn't enough to stop this show from being awesome.

If you can imagine Yuri on Ice! meets Holmes of Kyoto, then this is it. Slow paced but gripping. Boy-Love but not distasteful...
