Gurren Lagann takes place in a fictional future where Earth is ruled by the Spiral King, Lord Genome, who forces mankind to live in isolated subterranean villages that have no contact with the surface world or other villages. These villages are under constant threat of earthquakes, so select villagers called diggers are relegated to expand their homes deeper underground. Simon, a meek young digger who is ostracized by his peers, finds solace in his best friend and older brother figure, an eccentric delinquent named Kamina, who allows Simon to join his gang, Team Gurren, to help him achieve his dream of visiting the surface world.
Writing this I've just finished watching Gurren Lagann, and It was surely a great series to get through. In fact I got to the final episode in a matter of a few days with my school-leaving exams going on, and I haven't regretted a bit of my spent time with it, because it truly is one of the best out there.
It brings many welcomed aspects to wish for as an anime addict. The story and the characters are ever-evolving, one should you hate first, but later he might be your favorite, but on the contrary, you may also see some unwanted betrayals. The protagonist is so much of a unique one in the beginning, but, trust me you'll like him very much later on, as well as others.
The story is finished, so consider a full pack of enjoyment there, just be sure to bring tissues near the end.
So what are you waiting for, get ready to burst the heavens with your drill!
