I think this anime might be overlooked by some as just one more run-of-the-mill action mecha anime, but it is actually quite good. The show has a classic fantasy setting that any fan of the genre would appreciate, majestic, brutal and intense mecha battles, a beautiful soundtrack and one of the most amazing animation styles I´ve seen recently. The underlying plot with it´s politics are intresting to see as well, but where the show really excels is with characters. Friends fighting on opposite sides, the forbidden love between the queen and the main character subtlely hinted at throughout the show. They are all classic character themes, but when done right, that doesn´t matter, you just sit back and enjoy. There are a few more examples I won´t be getting into here now(for lack of space), but my main point is characters are usually integral to get a story to work, so when they´re done this skillfully, it just enhances the story that much more. The only thing I could fault the show with is that I would have liked a bit of an epilogue at the end, but that´s just a personal gripe :D (show less)
