Story that F.M.Dostoyevsky would love

I don't know to tell what is the best part of death note, because it have everything what I need. L is one of the most brilliant and clever character, and so sweet in his eccentricness, he is my favourite male anime character. On the other hand, Yagami Light is one of the most gruesome main protagonist and villian, maybe only Johan from Monster is beyond him. Animation is excellent in every aspect. Maybe, the great smart dialoges between two main character is the best in this anime? Or is it the philosophical side of the story that is the best? Essentially, the main theme is about whether the ends justifies the means. Light thinks, with the killing criminals (and anybody who would try to stop him or would get in his way) he can perform good deeds to counterbalance the crime. And I love how it ends, that was an interesting way to Kira end his life.
