Summary:
Kudo Shinichi is a seventeen year-old high school detective whom people call the "Modern Sherlock Holmes." However, one night after a date with his childhood sweetheart, Ran, Shinichi witnessed an illegal trade and, caught off his guard, was knocked unconscious and fed a drug that was supposed to kill him... but he woke up and found himself shrunken to a seven year-old. In order to track down the men who did this to him, Shinichi hid his identity and lived with Ran, whose father happened to be a hopeless detective, and with that came a series of murders and mysteries that he must solve.

This is the best illustration how Japanese producers can kill an anime/story which has the potential to be rated amongst the greats. The story had the potential to be the best but it was somehow stretched out that the main story is not advancing at all. I am certain that they address the main in 5 episodes per season and the rest of the episodes is the repetitive nonsense. In the beginning you are amazed by close room murder but they repeated the concepts so much that it bores you to hell. Ignore all this nonsense episodes and wait for the manga (read more)

+ heaps of mystery
+ well-written cases and plots, very logical and uses scientific knowledge
+ real landmarks/cities/roads depicted
cons
- stretched out and way...too...long
- main story doesn't seem to be advancing

conclusion: i love this for its unique concept, its logic and the fact that although it uses scientific knowledge etc., it can be understood by all ages. however, it's been running far too long, the cases are getting somewhat repetitive without the main story advancing, and the whole thing has become somewhat nonsensical. it would really be worth the watch were it shorter -- unique, with a nice concept, its mystery and its logic -- but i certainly don't want to be responsible for dragging anyone into a 660+ep anime. it's a pity i have to be saying this, but it would do the whole thing good if they finished it.
I read like 10 volumes of the manga and i dnt see whats so special about it that it would go to 600 something episodes. I understand it's more aimed for kids but looking at the number of reviews (28) it's really discouraging. Thought about watching it since it moved onto the most popular list, but after i saw the number of episodes I'm like: "No, I'm nt gonna waste my life," so yeah, if you're a fan and watched everything pls do a proper review.

An anime that had the potential to be ranked along side best anime today was killed by stretching it and a repeat of case with same concepts. You will find yourself watching a closed room murder too many times that it is no longer interesting. The end of the anime is long overdue. They cut short good anime like Slum Dunk and Claymore, yet they continue to produce such nonsense fillers & repeat same concept every season. How do they keep the ratings. If this show was shown elsewhere in the world it would have met its end after 2 years of showing (read more)

Detective Conan was an anime with huge potentials because of it's interesting story and the well written cases and plots, BUT the stretching they keep doing just made it a long boring anime that seems to never end.
I wish that they had made it with the same original story, characters and plots but with lesser stretching, if they had done that Detective Conan would have been one of my best animes.
